Effective July 30, MICU (Mobile Intensive Care Units) teams at Miami Valley Hospital North and South will begin carrying whole blood – making them among the first ground transport services in Ohio to do so. Each MICU will carry two units of low-titer group O whole blood. Early administration of whole blood has been shown to improve outcomes for patients in hemorrhagic shock. Expanding access to this lifesaving resource in the field helps ensure faster treatment and better outcomes when every second counts.
